Per 1 g Lignocaine 25 mg, prilocaine 25 mg
Indications/Uses
Topical anaesth of the skin for needle insertions, leg ulcers prior to cleaning genital mucosa & superficial surgical procedures, & superficial surgical procedures eg, removal of fibrin, pus & necroses.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Apply a thick layer to the skin & cover w/ an occlusive dressing. Adult Needle insertion Approx 2 g/10 cm2 for 1 hr. Max: 5 hr. Minor superficial surgical procedures: 1.5-2 g/10 cm2 for 1 hr. Max: 5 hr. Superficial surgical procedures on larger areas 1.5-2 g/10 cm2 for 2 hr. Max: 5 hr. Cleaning of leg ulcers Approx 1-2 g/10 cm2 for at least 30 min. May be extended to 60 min for difficult to penetrate tissues. Max: 10 g. Genital use Men 1 g/10 cm2 for 15 min. Women 1-2 g/10 cm2 for 60 min. Genital mucosa or removal of condyloma or prior to inj of local anaesth Approx 5-10 g for 5-10 min. Childn Needle insertion, curettage of lesions & other minor surgical procedures Max: 1 g/10 cm2, 6-12 yr Max: 200 cm2 (total 20 g) for 1 hr. Max: 5 hr, 1-6 yr Max: 100 cm2 (total 10 g) for 1 hr. Max: 5 hr, 3-12 mth Max: 20 cm2 (total 2 g) for 1 hr, 0-3 mth Max: 10 cm2 (total 1 g) for not longer than 1 hr. Atopic dermatitis Reduce application time to 30 min.
Contraindications
Premature infants.
Special Precautions
G6PD deficiency or congenital or idiopathic methaemoglobinaemia. Avoid contact w/ eyes & on areas of skin w/ atopic dermatitis. Monitor ECG changes w/ concomitant class III antiarrhythmics. Damaged tympanic membrane. Open wounds. Intracutaneous inj of live vaccine eg, BCG. Genital mucosa in childn. Infant 0-12 mth receiving treatment w/ methaemoglobin inducers. Childn <3 mth. Pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
Paleness, redness, oedema.
Drug Interactions
Methaemoglobin inducers (eg, sulpha prep), tocainide.
